Norwegian Mathematics Council

The Norwegian Mathematics Council is an independent, advisory body. It must give advice in matters at the request of ministries, the Research Council of Norway, the University and College Council, the participating institutions and from the national faculty meeting in science.

The prize is named after Niels Henrik Abel's teacher, Michael Holmboe, and aims to honor outstanding teaching in mathematics in Norwegian schools.
